When you have a growing family, personal space becomes essential and greatly desired. Kids tend to take over certain areas and every family knows that sharing a bathroom with your kids is tough. Our clients approached us with the desire to transform their master bedroom and second bathroom into a kid free zone, where they can relax and get reenergized at the end of the day. The existing bathroom was small with a single vanity, linen closet and small corner shower. Having the ultimate dream ensuite bathroom entailed features like a long freestanding tub (70”), double shower, double vanity with ample storage and plenty of lighting.
The existing bathroom left much to be desired including more space! Fortunately the clients had a spare bedroom next to their master bedroom which was underutilized. Here we had the brilliant idea of transforming that bedroom into a large ensuite bathroom, while transforming the existing bathroom into a walk-in master bedroom closet. With the spare bedroom measuring 8’-6”x13’-0” we were able to integrate everything desired on the client’s wish list. “Every project we take on starts with space planning,” says Alona, “because many of our clients don’t have the ideal space or layout, it is our job to look for alternative solutions that will best address their needs and wish list.” Once, the ideal layout was achieved, the focus shifted towards creating a contemporary style ensuite through material selection. Most of the time, clients forget that a larger bathroom means more money for finishing materials. Our clients entrusted us to create them a customized look within their budget. With our savvy design skills and creativity we sourced and manipulated pieces into achieving that wow focal feature, the vanity. The Canadian made walnut base was actually an office credenza found at a consignment store. It didn’t have legs and fortunately came with aluminum edge pulls that allowed us to source an alternative pull at any desired size and placement. With the credenza at a 28” height, we were able to raise the vanity with two 4” front black legs. Adding a top mount square ceramic vessel sink allowed us not only to keep the drawer storage underneath, but helped us avoid adding the expense of a stone countertop since the faucets are mounted on top of the sink. Making a wise investment is finding the right balance between splurging and saving on particular items.
